CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - For the third consecutive year, Guardians' Andrés Giménez and Steven Kwan were recognized as two of the top defensive players in Major League Baseball.
MLB and the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company announced the recipients of the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards on Sunday night.
Giménez took home the award for American League second baseman, and Kwan for AL left fielders.
Giménez, led all American League fielders with 20 Defensive Runs Saved and led Major League second basemen in total chances (638), assists (396) and double plays (93). Giménez joins Roberto Alomar (1999-2001) as the only Cleveland second basemen to win three Gold Gloves.
Kwan, finished fourth among AL left fielders in Defensive Runs Saved (10) and second with 9 outfield assists. Kwan is Cleveland's first outfielder since Kenny Lofton (1993-96) to win three straight Gold Gloves. Kwan's 24 Outs Above Average, 47 Defensive Runs Saved and 22 outfield assists since 2022 led all MLB left fielders.
Giménez and Kwan are the first Cleveland teammates to capture Gold Gloves in three straight seasons since 2B Roberto Alomar and SS Omar Vizquel each earned the honor from 1999-2001.
The Guardians had two other finalists for Gold Gloves, shortstop Brayan Rocchio and third baseman José Ramírez.
