Cache County Sheriff's deputies responded to a request for assistance from the Logan City Police Department, regarding a retail theft suspect fleeing the south Logan Walmart, Friday night, according to a CCSO's press release.
The release said after deputies located the suspect's vehicle, they attempted a traffic stop and engaged in a pursuit, the suspect eventually crashed into another vehicle at 1700 S SR-165.
"Cache County Deputies, Logan City Officers and Utah State Troopers, immediately provided aid to those involved in the collisions and worked to apprehend the suspect, who refused to exit the vehicle and claimed to have a firearm," the release read.
Following the arrival of the Cache/Logan SWAT team, the report says multiple negotiation attempts were made but the suspect continued to be "non-compliant and armed."
"Less-lethal pepper ball rounds were eventually deployed, leading to the suspect's surrender without further incident," the release details.
The release said there have been no life-threatening or critical injuries reported at this time. As for why the suspect fled, "Preliminary findings suggest the driver attempted to flee due to outstanding warrants and was operating a stolen vehicle."
CCSO's release said the investigation is ongoing and Utah State Troopers are assisting with the crash investigation.
