Georgia Cyber Center hosts 6th annual innovate competition

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The sixth annual Innovate Competition at the Georgia Cyber and Innovation Training Center took place on Wednesday with Augusta University.

The pitch competition features a program, which helps students learn how to pitch ideas and defend their ideas.

The top winners in undergraduate and graduate programs could win $5,000.

Starting the pitch and going through the process can be intimidating, which the director of innovation at the Georgia Cyber Center addressed when it came to the growth of the students during the program.

"Most individuals who walk away from the pitch competition, they have a drive within them that they did not know that they had before and so often with our students, we say just start. Just be brave, start that first step and that's just by submitting those five slides. You never know what your idea can do and what an impact it could have for our community success," said Lynsey Steinberg.

Anyone in the public can submit their pitch to better the community.

It has to be within five slides and a lean business model campus.

It's due by March 10 at https://augustainnovation.com/.

The Augusta VA's Innovation Specialist gave some tips on what makes a good pitch.

"Sometimes just figuring out and understanding what the problem is and how that is impacting humans and designing thoughtfully what it needs to be and then being able to clearly articulate that in five minutes or less. Be a good pitch which is rooted in telling the story of the people who are experiencing the problem makes all of the difference to get the support you need and actually get your invention out into the world," said Kelsey Shull, Augusta VA's Innovation Specialist.
