Patrick Mahomes' mother wore a red hat that wasn't repping the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.
Kansas City will look to remain the NFL's only undefeated team when playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. Randi Mahomes used the primetime game to send a political message ahead of Election Day.
Randi Mahomes wore a "Make America Great Again" hat associated with Trump. She declared that line in a brief video making the rounds on social media. People responded to her endorsement.
"Gross. I'm liking his family a little less," a social media user said.
"Taylor Swift in shambles," a fan wrote.
"SO glad Pat just decided to keep his mouth shut," a fan said.
Randi Mahomes took a different approach from her son. In an interview with Time Magazine published in April, the MVP quarterback explained why he hasn't endorsed political candidates in previous elections.
"I don't want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president," Mahomes said. "I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research."
His wife, Brittany, has previously "liked" social media posts favorable to Trump. However, she then watched the 78-year-old complain about her friend, Taylor Swift, endorsing Kamala Harris.
Swift, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, posted a photo with her cat after Trump spread lies about Haitian migrants abducting and eating pet cats and dogs in Springfield, Ohio, during the Sept. 10 presidential debate. His running mate, JD Vance, has also criticized "childless cat ladies."
The Chiefs have other MAGA ties. Harrison Butker endorsed Trump after calling Pride Month a sin during a controversial college commencement address, and the Hunt family donated $300,000 to a PAC fighting a proposed amendment to overturn an abortion ban in Missouri.
Randi Mahomes also proudly supported Trump, who said Sunday that he "shouldn't have left" the White House after losing his re-election bid to Joe Biden.
Trump frequently lied about the 2020 election results, leading to supporters storming the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to halt the peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6, 2021.
