Five participants in the Winston-Salem State University homecoming parade suffered minor injuries when a parade vehicle struck them Saturday, Winston-Salem police said.
The incident occurred about 11 a.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Research Parkway.
A vehicle driven by Jerry Haynie, 63, of Sedgefield Drive, came to a stop, Winston-Salem police said.
The vehicle then moved forward unexpectedly and hit the participants, who were walking in the parade. The vehicle also hit another vehicle, driven by Jordia Bufford, 60, of Cumberland Road.
The pedestrians were Angela Tuttle, 63, Patricia Ray, 49, Jilian Chuney, 37, Shari Miles, 55, and Daphne Williams, 62.
The pedestrians were taken to a local hospital, police said, where they were treated for injuries not believed to be life threatening.
No charges have been filed and police continue to investigate the incident.
