A Chief Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, has remanded three individuals, including Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over their alleged roles in last week's tragic stampede at Bashorun Islamic High School.
The other defendants are the school principal, Mr Abdullahi Fasasi, and Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the proprietor of Agidigbo FM.
The stampede occurred during a children's funfair held at the school, leading to multiple fatalities.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, ordered their remand at the Agodi Correctional Center on Tuesday after the defendants were arraigned on a four-count charge.
However, the police prosecutor argued that their actions violated Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
Meanwhile, heavy security was present at the court as relatives and interested parties gathered to witness the proceedings.
The court ruled that the suspects would remain in custody pending legal advice from the state prosecutor.
