POCATELLO -- Police rescued a man trapped in his burning apartment on Friday night in south Pocatello.
The fire at The Rail Yard apartment complex on the 2400 block of South Second Avenue was reported around 10:20 p.m.
The man who lived in the apartment where the fire ignited was trapped by the flames, authorities said. Responding Pocatello police officers removed an air conditioning unit from the window of the man's apartment and then rescued him from the blaze.
The Pocatello Fire Department responded shortly thereafter and quickly extinguished the flames.
There were no injuries but several residents who live in the apartment complex were temporarily evacuated and the apartment of the man who was rescued was so badly damaged that he will not be able to reside there until repairs are made, police said.
The man's name hasn't been released.
The other apartments did not suffer fire damage but the blaze did generate a lot of smoke throughout the complex.
Pocatello firefighters remained on the scene of the blaze until around 1:45 a.m. Saturday.
The fire's cause is not believed to be suspicious in nature but remains under investigation by the Fire Department, police said.
