KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) -- The man who was shot and killed by Charleston police in Malden while they were attempting to serve a warrant has been identified.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, Phillip Duelley, 41, was being served a warrant for illegal distribution of drugs and person prohibited from possessing a firearm.
This was in the 1000 block of Snowbird Drive just outside of Malden, according to dispatchers.
A press release said Duelley ran out of the house and into the woods with a firearm.
They said the police chased after him and told him to come out of the woods. This is when Duelley took out a firearm and was shot by a Charleston police officer, according to the sheriff's office.
According to the release, the bodycam footage showed the man was pointing the firearm at his head and asked officers to kill him. He then pointed the gun at officers.
Life-saving measures were performed on the scene but were unsuccessful.
This all happened within a 15-minute window, the sheriff's office said on Thursday.
The sheriff's office is investigating the shooting incident while the Charleston Police Department are conducting an internal investigation.
