Amon-Ra St. Brown has incredible catch streak against astronomical odds

As if we needed more evidence that Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown have a special connection, we're getting some.

Goff completed all seven of his passes to St. Brown in the 24-14 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 9, and now the quarterback-wide receiver combo has connected on 30 straight passes, which is incredibly impressive.

But making that more impressive is the odds St. Brown and Goff had to beat to get there, which are astronomical -- and that is not an exaggeration, either.

According to Next Gen Stats, the chances of St. Brown and Goff's 30-completion streak, which factors in the difficulty of each throw, is 0.0001%, or approximately one in 780,000.

We'll give you a second to let that sink in...

The last time Goff threw a pass to St. Brown that didn't result in completion came all the way back in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. In all, the USC product has caught 48 of his 59 targets in 2024.

Also according to Next Gen Stats, St. Brown's 30-catch streak is tied for the longest of any wide receiver since 2016. The only other receiver to produce a streak like this in that span is Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir.

Through eight games, Goff is on his way to being in the MVP discussion. He's thrown for 1,840 yards and 14 touchdowns to four picks while also completing a league-best and remarkable 74.9% of his throws. That is currently higher than the single-season NFL record held by Drew Brees (74.44%).

St. Brown, on the other hand, isn't putting up the gaudy yardage totals he did in 2023, but he's got 464 and six touchdowns, with the latter mark on pace to smash his career-best of 10 from last season.

Most importantly, the Lions continue chugging right along in their quest to win a Super Bowl.
