Indian filmmaker Rohit Shetty has proved his prowess once again as his latest Hindi movie, Singham Again took a big start at the box office and maintained it even after seven days of the release. The fifth film in Shetty's cop universe released on November 1 and its worldwide collections have already reached $31 million. Singham Again features Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Arjun Kapoor. In India alone, the film grossed more than $22 million in its first week. By the end of the second weekend, Singham Again is expected to cross $35 million.
After making a record opening of $7.7 million worldwide, Singham Again enjoyed the festive holidays last weekend and made $14.9 million in two days at the global box office. It earned $12.1 million in two days at the Indian ticket windows and closed the first weekend above $17 million. Globally, the film earned $22.2 million and made it as third highest-grossing movie worldwide on Comscore's list for the weekend. In the US markets alone Singham Again earned a little more than $2 million in three days.
After Rajkummar Rao-starrer Stree 2, Singham Again is the second-highest opening Hindi film for the year 2024. The Indian cop saga made $5.2 million on Friday in India. It is also Devgn's highest opening film in India.
Singham Again is also the top opening film for director Shetty, and actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor. For Kapoor, it is already his highest grossing film ever in India.
Devgn reprises his role of top cop Bajirao Singham in Singham Again which also brings Ranveer Singh back as Simmba and Akshay Kumar as Sooryavanshi. Devgn heads a special ops team in the film which features Padukone, Singh, Kumar, and Tiger Shroff as his junior cops who idolize him. Arjun Kapoor also makes his entry in the franchise in the role of the antagonist. Jackie Shroff and Kareena Kapoor Khan are back in their roles of a terrorist and Singham's wife respectively.
Shetty's cop universe was first conceptualized after the grand success of his 2011 film, Singham. Ajay Devgn was again seen in the role of Bajirao Singham in the 2014 film Singham Returns. With Simmba in 2018, Ranveer Singh made his entry in the franchise and Akshay Kumar joined them with Sooryavanshi in 2021.
In a social media post, director-producer Shetty thanked his fans and Hindi movie buffs for the box office success of his new film and said it is his tenth and fastest film to cross the $12 million-mark in India alone.
Singham Again had a major box office clash with Anees Bazmee's Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 which has also won hearts at the ticket windows. Together, the Hindi films are scoring a riot at the ticket windows. After the settlement of division of screens between the two films, both movies have scored well and broke records.
There were no major Hindi releases in theatres on November 7, the first weekend following the release of Singham Again. Shoojit Sircar's I Want To Talk is expected to release in theatres on November 22, but given its genre, it is not going to be a competition for Singham Again. Even if the Abhishek Bachchan-starrer springs a surprise, it gives a three weeks' window to the cop drama at the box office.
