Week 9's college football slate brought some big-time matchups, with five games featuring ranked teams and a few rare pairings between teams that hadn't faced off in years, thanks to recent conference realignment.
One game that really stood out was the noon ET showdown between the Washington Huskies and the No. 13 Indiana Hoosiers -- a win that rewrote the history books.
Indiana's new head coach, Curt Cignetti, was hired this past offseason after the team finished 3-9 in 2023. Coming into Saturday at 7-0, Indiana had the chance to reach eight wins for the first time since 1967. They did just that, beating Washington 31-17.
Additionally, without including the 2020 season impacted by the pandemic, Indiana became the first team in the Division I era (since 1973) to start a season 8-0 after winning three or fewer games the previous season.
The milestones didn't stop there. Cignetti also became the first head coach in the Division I era (since 1973) to start 8-0 in back-to-back seasons at two different schools. He spent last season with the James Madison Dukes where he led them to a 10-0 start.
The Hoosiers were without their starting quarterback, Kurtis Rourke, on Saturday after he injured his right thumb during last week's 56-7 victory over Nebraska. In his place, Tayven Jackson stepped in as the starter for Saturday's game.
Making his first start of the season, Jackson completed 11-of-19 passes for 124 yards and threw one touchdown. He also rushed six times for 17 yards and another touchdown.
Looking ahead, Indiana will travel to East Lansing for Week 10, where it will take on the Michigan State Spartans. The kickoff time for that one has yet to be announced.
