The Yakima Airport will get a boost in funding for capital improvement projects pending approval of a $2 million grant.
The City Council on Tuesday, June 14 authorized a Supporting Investments in Economic Development (SIED) grant application to Yakima County for the Yakima Air Terminal Building Modernization project.
According to the Airport Master Plan Update, projects slated for funding include modernization of the terminal facility's infrastructure.
The passenger and air cargo terminal was built in 1950 and last remodeled 25 years ago. Proposed projects include solar canopy for the terminal parking lot, overflow parking lot and roof and HVAC improvements, according to a Projects Update document by the airport director.
Since 1999 Yakima County's SIED program has invested over $49 million in local infrastructure projects (road, water, sewer) throughout Yakima County. Companies supported by SIED have invested over $200 million in new facilities and created over 1600 new jobs, the county's website said.
