GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) -- A 41-year-old Green Bay man was sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to breaking into slot machines at a Brown County hotel.
Wisconsin Circuit Court records indicate that Jacob Reese was sentenced on Aug. 20 and will also serve three years of probation following his release.
Reese stole thousands of dollars from slot machines at a hotel in Bellevue. Hotel staff reported that the gambling machines in the lobby had been broken into, resulting in the theft of cash. Surveillance footage captured three separate incidents in which a total of $14,025 was stolen.
In addition to the stolen money, an estimated $500 worth of damage was inflicted on the machines. A Green Bay police officer later identified Reese as one of the suspects in the footage.
Reese was arrested on Oct. 31, 2023, and admitted to authorities that he had committed the thefts, claiming he did not keep any of the stolen money.
According to the criminal complaint, Reese said he pried open the machine during the first incident, while in the second theft, he encountered a "big" lock and had to break the machine open to access the cash.
When questioned about his actions, Reese reportedly referred to himself as "Robin Hood," stating that he gives money to people within his circle. He claimed to have taken only $300 to $400 during each theft.
Reese pleaded guilty to charges in four separate cases, with additional charges dismissed but read in at sentencing.
