"Variable" used often to describe Minnesota yields

"Variable" continues to be a frequently used word to describe corn and soybean yields in the Upper Midwest.

Jeff Moon covers Minnesota and Wisconsin as a market development specialist for Corteva Agriscience.

"I think the word of the day would be 'variable.' Obviously we had a lot of moisture this spring, and it seems like those folks with heavier soils, and maybe soils that weren't quite as well drained, are really finding some difficulties on that heavy ground where normally they would expect to see some higher yields."

He tells Brownfield the flip side is better-than-expected yields on lighter ground.

"It seems like that early and consistent rain really helped, but even there they're struggling a little bit with some of their yields. So 'variable' I think is the best word that I would use."

Moon says harvest is advancing quickly in the region because of unseasonably warm and dry weather.
