Devon Sawa Is "Excited" For 'Idle Hands' Reimagining As He Shares Son's Hilarious Reaction

"My 10 year old: 'Awesome!! Finn Wolfhard from the coolest show Stranger Things is making a new movie called Idle Hands!!' Me: 'I was in Idle Hands!! I'm the original Anton!!'" he shared on X. "'Sure dad. Whatever you say. -- can I have a snack?'"

And although one follower scoffed at the idea of a reboot, Sawa is looking forward to seeing a new generation's take. "It'll be fun. I'm excited," he wrote.

Directed by Rodman Flender, Idle Hands (1999) stars Sawa as slacker teen Anton, who wakes up to find his parents have been murdered and his right hand is possessed by the devil. After accidentally killing his best friends Mick (Seth Green) and Pnub (Elden Henson), who return as snarky zombies, the trio attempts to destroy the evil appendage while planning to meet his crush Molly (Jessica Alba) at the Halloween dance.

The original film grossed just more than $4 million worldwide, with the release of the horror comedy largely impacted by the Columbine shooting, which took place earlier that month. And although it currently holds a 16% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, Idle Hands has become a cult classic over the years.

After Wolfhard and Bryk wrote and directed Hell of a Summer, which Neon has since acquired, Variety reported that the duo is being eyed to direct Idle Hands.

"Finn and Billy crushed their directorial debut and have a completely original take on Idle Hands that captures a disaffected generation," said Reitman. "We are excited to support them as they bring their unique take to the screen and summon the demons."
