LOWER MERION - Lower Merion police are continuing to search for the driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run in Bala Cynwyd early Monday morning.
In the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 11, police were called to the area around 5 West City Ave. on the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. The driver was traveling south.
Police described the victim as a disabled 61-year-old former resident of Philadelphia who was confined to a wheelchair. She was homeless and was known to frequent the City Avenue corridor in Bala Cynwyd.
Police said after being struck, the woman was ejected from the wheelchair and suffered critical injuries.
She was treated by officers on the scene and by medics from Narberth Ambulance. She was pronounced dead at Lankenau Hospital. She is not being identified until all family members have been contacted, police said.
Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver. Monday evening, police released images of the suspected driver and the vehicle.
Police described the operator as a black male with a medium build, a black Nike brand hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes. The sweatshirt had a distinct logo on the chest reading "Just Do It" in large white letters.
The striking vehicle is described as a dark-colored late model Toyota Camry four-door sedan with heavily tinted windows. It has a probable Pennsylvania registration.
"The vehicle will have damage to the lower passenger front bumper, passenger front quarter panel, and possibly the passenger side mirror. The vehicle may also have scratches along the length of the passenger side," police said in a press release.
