Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts Elite In 1 Key Area

There is a common thought process surrounding scrambling quarterbacks across the NFL in recent years. The thought being they cannot win from the pocket, and only succeed when they are outside of it.

That kind of thought is fair to some signal-callers, but not true of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

In a study done by Pro Football Focus, Hurts was seen to be one of the most efficient passers with a clean pocket, with one of the higher EPA ratings in a pocket that has collapsed a bit throughout the year to start.

The full chart can be found courtesy of PFF ... but does not take into account quarterbacks who bail out of the pocket or make poor decisions like throwing turnover-worthy passes.

Even so, it is staggering that Jalen Hurts remains a quarterback who is better from inside the pocket, than outside. Philadelphia's franchise quarterback may not have the same speed he once did, but he has made a conscious effort to be better as a passer.

And boy, has he ever accomplished that, according to the numbers.

Hurts is completing close to 68 percent of his passes this season, which would be a career high. And has totaled 11 touchdowns to four interceptions. He hasn't turned the ball over in each of his last two games.

It appears Philadelphia has found a formula that works for Hurts to this point: Defenses may want to keep him in the pocket, and Hurts - looking elite in this one key area - is certainly OK with that.
