Jungle Brothers' Relentless Passion Radiates On Live 1989 Clip - Glide Magazine

Thirty-five years ago today (November 7, 1989), the iconic Hip-hop group Jungle Brothers released their landmark sophomore LP, Done By the Forces of Nature. This release aligns with the rest of the group's innovative career, for which we have much to thank Jungle Brothers. The group is credited for creating the legendary Native Tongues movement in Hip-hop, which introduced jazz and house music elements to the funk samples that drove the genre in the early days. Thanks to the group's fearless endeavors into uncharted sonic waters, acts like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul were able to explore their take on jazzy Hip-hop and produce what is now considered some of the best Hip-hop music ever.

We look at some rare Jungle Brothers footage from 1989 for this Golden Age Thursday. In this video, we get a look at Jungle Brothers' powerful messaging before they launch into an electric performance of the title track from their iconic debut LP, Straight Out the Jungle. The footage is allegedly taken from a documentary on A Tribe Called Quest's European Tour, where Jungle Brothers opened called The Art of Moving Butts in Europe. Even through the fuzzy distortion of the VHS-style clip, Jungle Brothers' raw energy and relentless passion for their art shine through. You can watch the legendary group do what they do best below.
