Officer killed, another seriously injured in Hwy 58 crash
Geer's arrest stems from a crash that happened in the eastbound lanes of Highway 58, just east of Washington Avenue in Golden, at around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
CSP said officers were working on a property damage crash at the time. One officer was in a police cruiser while two others were managing the crash site.
A passing car then hit the two officers at the original crash site, forcing them under the original crashed vehicle.
CSP said one of the officers, a 33-year-old man, was pronounced dead on scene and the other was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The identities of the officers have not been released.
Joe Harvey, chief of the Golden Police Department, spoke about the officer who was killed during a press conference Wednesday night.
"He's an amazing human being, he has had a long stellar career in the military, where he flew Blackhawk helicopters, and served as a commander," Harvey said.
The officer is survived by his wife, sister and parents. In the department, the officer is survived by 71 members of his Golden family who said they love and care for him deeply.
Details regarding funeral arrangements and any commemorative services will be shared as they become available, according to the city of Golden.
