High school volleyball: Parkway tops Haughton

The Parkway Lady Panthers opened District 1-I play with a three sets to none victory over the Haughton Lady Bucs Tuesday night at Parkway.

Parkway rallied from a late deficit, saving several set points, to win the first set 26-24. Both teams had a chance to win the second before the Lady Panthers took it 28-26. Parkway won the third 25-20.

Jocelyn Silva led the Lady Panthers with 11 kills. Lecsi Hilton had nine aces and six kills. Caitlynn Johnson had seven aces and four blocks.

Parkway (10-11) hosts Airline in a district match Thursday. Haughton (11-17, 0-2) hosts Huntington Thursday.

Elsewhere Tuesday, Airline fell to Captain Shreve 3-2 at home. The Lady Vikings won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-19. The Lady Gators (17-8, 2-0) took the next three 25-14, 25-23 and 18-16.

Airline (12-14, 0-2) defeated Evangel Christian 25-8, 25-16, 25-11 in a non-district match at Evangel Monday.

Providence Classical Academy fell to Downsville 25-13, 25-16, 26-24. PCA and Downsville are both in District 1-V but the Lady Knights are ineligible for championship honors as a first-year member of the LHSAA.

Benton (16-4, 1-0) hosts Byrd (22-8, 1-0) Wednesday. According to GeauxPreps.com, the Lady Tigers are No. 7 in the Division I power rankings and the Lady Jackets are No. 8.

Airline is No. 30 and Parkway No. 31. The top 32 teams in the final rankings generally make the playoffs although district champions automatically qualify regardless of ranking.
