Monona Police arrest 2 people in a span of hours for driving, running from police

MONONA, Wis. -- Monona Police arrested two people after they said two people drove and ran from officers in a span of hours in separate incidents.

Monona Police Brian Chaney said just before 10 pm an MOPD was in the area of a commercial business district along Industrial Dr/ Royal Avenue. Chaney said the area had recently been a target of an attempted burglary.

While in the area, the officer saw a vehicle drive through the loop without stopping. Chaney said the officer sped ahead and turned off its vehicles lights.

The vehicle allegedly began to pass vehicles in a no passing zone. MOPD attempted to stop the driver who reportedly drove away from police.

The suspect drove into the lot of a large apartment along Moorland Road. The suspect vehicle allegedly stopped and both the driver and suspect ran from officers into the parking lot of the complex.

Chaney said the driver continued to run and MOPD released a K9 who eventually caught the suspect driver.

The suspect suffered minor bite injuries and allegedly told officers he thought he could outrun K9. After being taken to a local ER, the suspect was booked into the Dane County Jail on multiple offenses to include an outstanding warrant.

A 22-year-old Madison man was arrested for felony eluding/obstruct a peace officer and felony bail jumping. Chaney said the man has an outstanding warrant from Jefferson County. He is currently out on bail for an unrelated felony eluding case that occurred in Columbia County earlier this year.

MOPD said it is still looking for the passenger who ran from the vehicle. The person was last seen in the area of 1100 Moorland Rd. Anyone with any information is asked to contact MOPD dispatch (608)222-0463.

Later around 1:22 a.m. an MOPD monitoring traffic at Highway 51 and Broadway in Monona saw a vehicle pass its location with improper headlights and taillights. The officer saw the person traveling 25mph under the posted speed limit of 55mph. The vehicle also reportedly made a irregular lane change near an intersection.

The officer initiated a vehicle pursuit after the driver reportedly sped away. The vehicle continued on Highway 51 and eventually an MOPD officer stopped the pursuit in the area of Milwaukee Street and Kurt Drive.

A short time later, a Dane County Sheriff's Office Deputy radioed information that the vehicle was located abandoned along Highway TT.

Chaney said the suspect was spotted running in a farm field nearby. Police located the suspect hiding in a row of bushes approximately 1,200 feet from the location of his abandoned vehicle.

The driver was previously cited for operating after revocation. A 21-year-old Green Bay man was arrested for felony eluding, resist/obstructing a peace officer, and felony bail jumping. He has a previous conviction for operating a motor vehicle with a restricted controlled substance from Dodge County earlier in the year.
