WORCESTER CITY triumphed 1-0 in the Worcestershire County Cup, thanks to a last-minute winner from substitute Zac Guinan.
Over the last few games, City have looked like a team on a mission, and a side that simply won't back down, tonight's cup match was no different.
It was a feisty local affair, with the chants of both fans being heard throughout, and countless cards dished out to both sides. The game also marked Prince Henry's first start for the club since joining from Banbury United, the forward having previously played for Redditch can only have added fuel to the fire.
The first real chance of the game saw Felix Miles break through and strike one from distance. The chance ran just wide of Callum Smith's post.
Miles got another chance soon after. Liam Lockett broke away down the left, before squaring it back to Miles. Miles' shot was just saved by Smith down low.
Redditch responded with a curling effort from Jahvan Davidson-Miller, but the shot never troubled Haydn Whitcombe.
The first half was close between both sides, with each team battling for a chance to break the deadlock. Despite both sides breaking through their opposition's defence at points, neither team could go into half time ahead.
The tone for the second half was set early on, a few crunching challenges made it clear that the second half would be just as competitive as the first.
Redditch had the first proper chance of the second half, Johnny Johnston sent a cross in, which flashed past Whitcombe's post, but he was able to get enough on it to ensure he kept his clean sheet intact.
As the teams grew into the second half, Belmonte spotted the keeper off his line and tried to hit an audacious shot from inside his own half - the strike ultimately fell wide of the goal.
Redditch responded quickly, Billy Shaw broke through down the left, before passing in to Alex Cameron. Cameron's shot was blocked by Hayden Reeves.
Worcester were forced to drop down to ten men for the final 20 minutes. A tough challenge, followed with a scuffle between both teams saw the referee deal out a whole host of cards - this included a second yellow and therefore a sending off for Kyle Belmonte.
This did not deter City. They held strong defensively, and kept up the pressure on the attack. In the final minutes of normal time their grit paid off. Jordan Lymn surpassed two Redditch players, breaking through. He found Miles in the box, who squared the ball to substitute, Zac Guinan. Guinan stroked it home and the travelling Faithful fans went into utter pandemonium.
Worcester were forced to hold strong defensively for the final few minutes, but they defended well and triumphed in a hard-fought game.
City progress through to the semi finals of the Worcestershire FA County Cup - their opponents for the next round will be decided at a later date.
