BLOOMINGTON -- No injuries were reported after Bloomington firefighters responded to a Tuesday evening house fire in the 200 block of Magnolia Drive.

Crews forced their way into the home shortly after 6:30 p.m. after noticing smoke and fire coming from the rear of the building, according to a Thursday morning news release.

After calling for additional support units, firefighters were able to locate the source of the fire in the kitchen, and saw that it had spread to the attic, with pockets of fire in the ceiling.

The fire was under control within an hour and no injuries were reported for either civilians or first responders, the news release said.

No one was displaced due to the fire, either, the fire department said.

Man nets prison for repeat DUIs

BLOOMINGTON -- A man from Normal has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty in two felony DUI cases.

Quinonez Ayers, 58, appeared before Judge Amy McFarland on Tuesday afternoon regarding his second and third DUI offenses, and was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In each case, Ayers had pleaded guilty in June to driving with a revoked license, Class 4 felonies, earning three-year sentences; and aggravated DUI, Class 2 felonies, earning six-year sentences. All of these sentences are to be served concurrently.

In response to Ayers' plea, Assistant State's Attorney Alexandra Williams dismissed the remainder of his charges on behalf of the state.

Ayers also was ordered to pay all fines and fees associated to the court.

Assistant Public Defender Matthew Landry has not responded to a request for comment.
