Look: Google Doodle celebrates Veterans Day 2024

Nov. 11 (UPI) --Google is celebrating Veterans Day 2024 with a new Doodle on Monday.

"We proudly honor the millions of men and women across the globe who have selflessly served their countries, protecting the ideals of freedom and integrity," Google said on its website.

The red, white and blue Doodle was inspired by "Freedom Flight," a sculpture created by U.S. Navy Veteran and artist Steve Kost.

The letters in "Google" are intended to look like scrap metal that can be found in army supply stores and veteran equine therapy centers, according to Google.

The sculpture and the Doodle it inspired also include an American bald eagle made out of gears.

Veterans Day was initially recognized in 1919 as Armistice Day to recognize World War I veterans.

In 1954, the date of Nov. 11 was renamed Veterans Day to honor all people who have risked their lived to defend their country.
