More than 3,000 people gathered at the Brooks Museum of Art Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2, for the Day of the Dead celebration, which included a parade from Overton Square to the museum, several musical performances, food vendors, informational booths and so, so many bright fanciful costumes and parade floats.
"Some people think that this is a Mexican Halloween. It's nothing like that," said Monica Sanchez, a cofounder of the Cazateatro Bilingual Theatre Group and one of the organizers of Saturday's event. "This is a celebration of life. We celebrate the lives of our loved ones. They're not physically here, but they are in our minds and in our hearts."
