The new Onyx BOOX Note Air4 C is a 10.3 inch tablet with a 10.3 inch E Ink Kaleido 3 color display capable of showing 4096 colors, support for touchscreen and pressure-sensitive pen input, and an Android-based operating system.

Designed primarily for reading and writing, the tablet is a pretty modest update over the previous-gen Onyx BOOX Note Air3 C. But there are two key changes: the new model has 50% more RAM and ships with a newer version of Android. The $500 price tag remains the same.

The new model has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and ships with Android 13. While that's not the newest version of Android available (that'd be Android 15), it's newer than the versions of Google's mobile operating system featured on most tablets with E Ink displays.

By comparison, the BOOX Note Air3 C has 4GB of RAM and comes with Android 12.

Most other features appear to be unchanged. Both tablets have unspecified octa-core processors, support for dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5 (the newer tablet supports Bluetooth 5.1).

And both tablets have electronic paper displays with resolutions of 2480 x 1860 for 300 pixels per inch of black and white content. But when viewing color content that drops to 1240 x 930 pixels (150 ppi).

Other features include a G-sensor for automatic screen rotation, a fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button, a USB Type-C port that can be used for storage, data, or for audio (with a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter), stereo speakers, a microphone, and a microSD card reader for removable storage.

The tablet measures 226 x 193 x 5.8mm (8.9'' x 7.6'' x 0.23'') and weighs 420 grams (14.8 ounces). It has a 3700 mAh battery that should provide weeks of battery life, although actual run time will vary depending on usage.

With a $500 price tag, the Onyx BOOX Note Air4 C costs $79 less than the reMarkable Paper Pro. In some ways, it's more versatile since its Android operating system allows you to install third-party applications. But reMarkable's tablet is a purpose-built devices that uses a higher quality (and slower) E Ink Gallery color display and ships with a custom operating system designed specifically for reading and writing and not much else.
