The United States is suing the Mississippi State Senate for allegedly violating Title VII by racially discriminating against a Black attorney.
The federal government's complaint, filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, alleges Kristie Metcalfe was paid $40,000 to $60,000 less per year than the lowest paid white attorney in the state's Legislative Services Office during her eight years there, even though she had the same job duties and responsibilities.
