Dragon Age: The Veilguard Reveals How It's Taking Advantage of the PS5 Pro

Key Takeaways

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have PS5 Pro enhancements using Sony's PSSR upscaler. PS5 Pro will improve quality in both Performance and Fidelity modes for the game.

BioWare has stated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have specific PS5 Pro enhancements for players to pick from. The developer said that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will utilize Sony's new AI-based upscaling and improved ambient occlusion technologies to enhance the game's Performance and Fidelity modes on the PS5 Pro.

Although Dragon Age: The Veilguard will release just days before the PS5 Pro's planned November 7 launch, that has not stopped developers like EA and BioWare from announcing their plans for Sony's upgraded console. Compared to the base PS5, the upgraded GPU of the PS5 Pro is capable of rendering games 45% faster, has upgraded ray tracing capability, and can utilize AI-based upscaling via PSSR to increase performance without sacrificing graphical quality. The highly-anticipated fourth entry in the Dragon Age series is just one of a growing list of titles that will offer exclusive PS5 Pro enhancements.

Alongside the reveal of the PC spec requirements for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare stated how its upcoming title would utilize the PS5 Pro's technology. According to BioWare studio technical director Maciej Kurowski, the PS5 Pro's AI-based upscaler, PSSR, will be used to enhance the Performance mode setting of Dragon Age: The Veilguard up to the graphical quality of Fidelity mode. While the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of The Veilguard will still use Fidelity and Performance modes, which respectively cap the game at 30 and 60 frames per second (FPS), the PS5 Pro will improve both modes across the board, as improved resolution and visual options will be available. Kurowski said that BioWare will also enable Raytraced Ambient Occlusion (RTAO) when the game is set to Performance mode on PS5 Pro. RTAO is also available on the base PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but only when the game is set to Fidelity mode.
