November is Virginia Oyster Month which means roasts galore in Hampton Roads

November is Virginia Oyster Month and the state has eight growing regions that produce distinct flavors in the shellfish. Several local groups are having oyster roasts and we've selected a few to highlight; get your tickets soon though -- they're going fast.

Enjoy all-you-can-eat grilled, fried and raw oysters at Calypso's 13th Annual Oyster Roast. The event includes live entertainment, booze and other tasty fare including smoked pork. Proceeds benefit the Virginia Beach Jaycees.

The Chesapeake Sheriff's Oyster & South Festival will have all-you-can-eat oysters (steamed and fried), clam strips, barbecue, hot dogs and unlimited beverages. The afternoon also includes monster truck rides, live music and vendors. Proceeds benefit Children Today Leaders Tomorrow.

Portsmouth-Chesapeake Elks Lodge is hosting an oyster roast with all-you-can-eat and drink. The roast includes hot dogs and clam chowder but bring side dishes and sauces. Don't forget your oyster knives or purchase them at the door.

Join New Realm Brewing Co. for its first oyster roast. It will have a buffet of oysters and bites and two beer tickets. Oysters are provided by Shore Coastal Seafood.

Add the Warwick Moose's Oyster Roast to your calendar. Attendees can indulge in all-you-can-eat oysters (raw, roasted and Rockefeller), clam chowder, tortellini soup, hot dogs, barbecue and sides. Beer and wine are included.
