Two Ohio State offensive players earn awards from Big Ten after win vs. Purdue

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State quarterback Will Howard and receiver Jeremiah Smith were recognized by the Big Ten for their play in Saturday's win against Purdue.

Howard, for the first time this year, was named the conference's offensive player of the week.

He completed 21 of his 26 passes for 260 yards and accounted for four total touchdowns.

Smith, for the second time this season, was named the Big Ten freshman of the week.

He caught six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. He has scored in all but one game this season.

In the win against Purdue, Smith broke a pair of Ohio State freshman receiving records set by Cris Carter in 1984. Smith's 45 receptions and nine reception touchdowns are the most ever by a Buckeye in his freshman season.

Ohio State improved to 8-1 with the victory. OSU returns to action Saturday to face Northwestern at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
