Arctic Releases Ginormous Freezer 4U-SP5 Air-Cooled Solution for AMD SP5 Server Platforms

Arctic announced the launch of the Freezer 4U-SP5 air-cooled radiator designed for the AMD SP5 server processor platform. This cooling solution is compatible with AMD EPYC 9000 series processors, supporting thermal design power ratings up to 360 watts. The Freezer 4U-SP5 is specifically designed for the AMD SP5 LGA6096 socket, providing effective thermal management for high-performance server environments. Its design meets the cooling requirements of server configurations that demand reliable and efficient performance under continuous operational loads. The Freezer 4U-SP5 features a durable cooling system with ten direct-contact heat pipes, each measuring 6 millimeters in diameter. These heat pipes are arranged in two groups to manage heat buildup at both ends of the processor, improving overall heat distribution and dissipation. The radiator also includes 62 high-density aluminum fin arrays, increasing the surface area for heat exchange and enhancing cooling efficiency.

The unit measures 124 by 147 by 145 millimeters, making it suitable for installation in server cabinets with 4U or larger form factors. Additionally, the Freezer 4U-SP5 accommodates memory modules up to 53 millimeters in height, ensuring compatibility with various server configurations. The total weight of the cooling solution is 1,512 grams, and it comes with 0.8 grams of MX-6 thermal paste to ensure optimal thermal conductivity between the processor and the cooler.

For cooling performance, the Freezer 4U-SP5 uses a push-pull fan setup with two dual ball-bearing PWM fans to maximize airflow through the radiator's fins. These fans are designed for continuous operation, providing consistent cooling necessary for server stability and longevity. The fans have a rotation speed range of 300 to 3,300 revolutions per minute (RPM), allowing speed adjustments based on thermal needs. The maximum airflow capacity is 81.04 cubic feet per minute (CFM), and the unit can generate up to 4.35 millimeters of water (mmH₂O) in static pressure, which is important for effective heat dissipation in dense server environments. The maximum noise level from the fans is 45.3 decibels (dB(A)), which is suitable for data center operations where minimizing noise is important. The Arctic Freezer 4U-SP5 air-cooled radiator is priced at approximately $70 USD on the official Arctic website.
