Adobe Fresco is Now Completely Free

Adobe announced today that it is making its Fresco pro painting and drawing app available for free to all users on Windows, iPad, and iPhone. The app previously had a free tier, but certain premium features required an annual subscription.

"Since its launch in November 2019, Adobe Fresco has revolutionized digital art, delivering 120 features in more than 50 releases and fostering a community of millions of users," Adobe notes in the announcement post. "Today, we're embracing creativity for all by making Fresco completely free for all users, so anyone and everyone can discover -- or rediscover -- the joy of drawing and painting with the support of Adobe Fresco."

It's more likely that Adobe is embracing the hard reality that its primary competition in this space, Procreate is available for a small one-time fee on iPad and iPhone. But whatever, free is free. And Fresco looks like a terrific solution for those who wish to create digital artwork using a smart pen or multitouch that emulates physical drawings and paintings.

Among its features are oil and watercolor brushes, vector brushes, and thousands of pixel brushes; haptic feedback, tilt, barrel-roll, and squeeze support for Apple Pencil; motion capabilities; a symmetry tool for faster, more precision compositions; a vector trimmer for removing intersecting vector strokes and cleaning up line art; and a paint inside tool option for filling enclosed areas without going outside the lines.
